Camp Story: A Glimpse from Childcare at Lake Champion

June 8, 2023

Camp is a place to unplug, immerse yourself in the beauty of the grounds, connect with your community in a new way, and allow space for the Lord to meet you in new ways. We work to create these opportunities for young parents attending camp–but we also want to see the same life change happen for volunteers and leaders who come to camp as well!

In order to support our Spanish-speaking campers, each of our 11 nurseries included a volunteer who spoke Spanish and greeted these campers in their heart language. This inclusion and accessibility was possible through a generous scholarship grant.

“It was amazing and beautiful,” states NE Divisional Coordinator Lucy Mills.

The Lake Champion Camp Director, Ray Villegas, was intentional in affirming and challenging the childcare team. He shared a challenging message at the all-camp meeting on Day 0. His intention was so impactful, as seen in this the feedback from one of the childcare workers that week:

“The highlight of my week personally was listening to Ray Villegas speak. Without even knowing it, he saved me this week. I came to camp mentally feeling like I didn’t have a purpose in life and felt so lost. After hearing from him even briefly, I felt refreshed and saved. I’m back home now feeling new, and I have internal wounds healed that I never thought was possible.”
